Services & Equipment exchanged among members

Most services requested fall into one of ten general categories which are listed in the Index below.  This index gives the I.D. number of  households offering one or more of these types of service, the Directory itself (available only to members)  gives the I.D. number, address, email, and telephone number of each household.  Many households also offer other unique services such as languages, invasive plant species, Feng Shui, etc.   Two additional indexes give the I.D. numbers of households offering to lend tools and medical equipment to other members.  In addition, a few owner pools have formed to purchase and share use of special equipment.  Such owner pools are listed separately in the Directory and the equipment owned by some pools may be available for loan to other members of the co-op.

POOLING
Several households may agree to purchase a piece of equipment in common and share its use among those contributing to the purchase.    They may also agree to lend  the equipment to other community members not in the pool in exchange for DexMils.  At the moment the following pools have been created or discussed:
Hav-a-hart Live Trap Pool.  Ten households contributed to the $60 price of a large Live trap to  catch  ground hogs (wood chucks) and remove them to more rural locations.   Professional specialists usually charge $25 and up for the same service.    Others co-op members may borrow the trap, for one DEXMIL per day.  Contact one of the directors for information on the current custodian of the trap.  At least 4 ground hogs were successfully captured and transported during the summer of 2009.
Sewer and Sidewalk Repairs    A dozen or more members of the co-op have combined with other households living near by to jointly engage a professional construction company for repairs of both sewers and sidewalks.   Substantial cost savings were attained since the contractor's costs for moving men and equipment was greatly reduced.
Calling Circle   A few members with health problems have considered creating a 5 person calling circle to check on each member's health  each day.   Each morning one member calls the second members of the circle at an agreed time and the second member then calls the third member and so on until the last person calls the initiator, thereby confirming that all members are up and safely active   If the calls are not completed within an hour,  the Initiators investigates to see who failed to answer and has someone check on their condition and obtain what help may be needed.  To date (11/4/08), an active calling circle has not been created.
Pickup Truck,  Snow Blower, etc    Several members have considered pooling with five or ten others to purchase a used pickup truck or  snow blower for shaed use.  This would probably require special provisions for registration and insurance of the more costly equipment, possibly by forming a small non-profit corporation to own, maintain and insure the eqipment.  If demand were high enough,  the co-op itself might undertake such a purchase.
